Snorkeling on Koh Samui

The beautiful coral reefs of Koh Samui and its neighboring islands are a diver's and snorkeler`s paradise . The best areas are around Koh Thao, a small island north of Koh Samui and Koh Phangan , but the Anthong Marine Park is also remarkable.

Koh Samui itself offers ideal conditions for beginners and divers with little experience. The area around Hin Ta & Hin Yai (Grandmother Grandfather Rock) is especially suited for beginners, because there are large sand banks between the stone formations. A large variety of underwater life can be observed.

So-CalledWaikiki Reef in the south of Koh Samui is attractive for beginners as well as experienced divers. Drift dives up to 2 kilometers are possible. Another popular destination is Koh Tan, a small island directly in front of the south coast of Samui. The boat drive takes only 20 minutes. Apart from scuba diving, snorkeling is excellent. Other good diving and snorkeling sites are the Chaweng Reef or the Lamai Reef. (some info from http://www.inm-asiaguides.com/thailand/kohsamui/esamdive.htm).
